Comments:

Saw this show--my first Dead show. Energy was super high and they played a LONG time. All I can say is it was truly magical. Hard to keep your feet on the ground.

Very unique Scarlet/Fire. Get it!

First show, hardly any idea what I was seeing. Recognized FOTD that was about it.

Knew something about the setlist seemed unusual: one of only 2 shows with China Cat > Rider, Scarlet > Fire, and Estimated > Eyes. I was definitely not there, but these 80's Greek shows have a home-base feel about them. Great Tiger tones from Jerry throughout. OMNS is a nice surprise at the "go fast" moment in A&A.

Fall '81 may not reach the heights of Spring (09/26 is a strong rebuke though), but this gig shows that it can get deep and jam with the best of them. Shakedown, El Paso, Bird Song -> Cassidy, Jed, and the whole second set rips. Special shoutout to Eyes, NFA -> Wharf Rat and a great Baby Blue. Enjoy, then pass it along to a friend.

My 1st show was a year later (US Fest). I remember 2 long tunes that blew my brains out. My deadhead friends were unimpressed, but I was hooked

This setlist is more than just a little unique. It is 1 of 2 with CC>IKYR, Est> Eyes, S>F. It is also the only show with China Cat, Scarlet, & CC Rider. Shakedown, Bird Song, FOTD, & Scarlet..and probably more than a dozen other combinations of just 4 songs. This is without doubt, the most loaded setlist they ever played...maybe excluding a few 3 setters from pre-retirement.

It is crucial to understand that rather than coast through some of them, the boys were explosive and inspired all night, from the seriously awesome Shakedown that could easily have been the meat of any 80s-90s 2nd set, to the El Paso... THE EL PASO, that is required listening, a LL Rain that is so freaking good it is hard to believe I usually skip the song. And the heavy hitters are all top class 80s versions. Maybe because until recently the sound quality available really wasn't what most people are after...thankfully no longer true.. but this should be among their most famous concerts. Criminally unknown.
