This show was cancelled for an unknown reason. This article (below) supposes it could be somehow related to the Kent State Shooting that took place in May of 1970..."Demonstrations in May 1970 – in response to the Kent State University shooting – shut down the DeKalb campus and NIU students were arrested by the busload, according to the DeKalb County Journal. The 1971 concert was canceled for some reason and $5,000 collected for tickets was refunded." Perhaps the powers that be did not want the attention or crowds, even ten months later. So, although this concert was planned, it did not take place.

I heard that they may have played a concert near the NIU campus. A buddy of mine mentioned he had heard a co-worker say that he saw the Dead at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb, IL. There are no other sources for that claim and as far as I know, they did not play at the Egyptian.
