Comments:

this was a free show that the dead performed in the village of Lille, France...they had to cancel a previous show there for some reason and they promised to come back and play...when they did the show was attended by some local townsfolk and curiousity seekers.
apparently it was a beautiful setting as phil lesh has said he felt like he was playing in the midst of a french impressionist painting! the show itself is lovely. very tasty! those villagers certainly were treated to a full range of american music...rock and roll, country, blues and jazz style jamming!
the china>rider is particularly HOT!
excellent quality copies of this show now circulate...grab one if you can!

There's a great animated tale of the background events that lead to this free show in one of the Grateful Dead Comix back issues--Get it Now!!

Great jamming here. Nice pig + keith show. I love this mexicali. I know you rider very very hot. Truckin blasts off an incredible second set. What a Blessing to be able to hear this show 45 years after the fact.
The board has great stereo separation with bob on the left side.
All the pig tunes are clean and precise. It takes two songs for the mix to get dialed in. Be patient, worth the listen.

First show I ever heard, and it was a great one. Features my favorite performances of Chinatown Shuffle, Bertha, and The Other One. No duds in this show.

Very solid stuff. The Other One is towering and cosmic. Terrific version of he’s gone.
