Comments:

My ears are still ringing from that "Sugar Magnolia". Bobby was jumping around and Jerry had his strat cranked and was playing way up on the fretboard. I've never heard them so loud.

Best Eyes EVER!! Period.

i was in St. Louis recently and while walking around downtown came across the Kiel Opera House...a beautiful old building.

that had to be a real trip when it was overrun with Deadheads!

this show is excellent and seeing it in such a beautiful and acoustically pleasing setting had to be a "grate" experience! i bet when they were that playing Sugar Mags at such a high decibel level that those notes were ringing thru crystal clear!

just by way of clarification, These show (10/29 & 30 '73 were held at kiel auditorium in St. Louis, nonetheless, a splendid venue for an amazing show.
It was my firstshowever (10/29) I got spoiled.

I
Around-Good Bobby screams
II
Bertha-excellent combo's with Jerry relaxed solos and Bobby's rhythems.
Truckin>
TO1. Gets very trippy at end of Truckin' and goes into a nice spacey Other One. Good mix of the second set.

I am ashamed of myself for missing this show. I lived in Iowa City and made it to every show within driving distance. I had been to Madison, WI shortly before.
Promised Land/Bertha/Greatest Story Ever Told? Maybe its good I missed this show. My head might have exploded.

Band sounds a little sped up, with Jerry playing very fierce leads throughout. Eyes > China Doll is excellent, and the band proceeds to stomp the next 4 rock and roll tunes. 2nd set ballads are very strong, especially Wharf Rat. Truckin > Other One smokes.
-Just Exactly Perfect Band (01/27/2019)

....also a sweet Loser. Thanks CM

Keith is really ready to rock tonight! Must hear for lovers of his playing.

Race Is On, Truckin > Jam and Wharf Rat are VERY special. This Truckin is upper echelon... underrated!

Dick Latvala's thoughts on this two night stretch:

The 2 shows at the end of the month in St. Louis,Mo. were
both worthy of a future release with only the second sets. On
10/29/73, there is a pretty long jam that is concerned with "The
Other One" and on 10/30/73 it is "Dark Stars" turn. On each, the
playing is spectacular. The jam from the 10/29 show has simply
outstanding jamming around the songs and the songs themselves
are examples of the "best versions" category, especially "The
Other One", "Wharf Rat", "Sugar Magnolia" and "Casey Jones".
The "Eyes" from the following night is one of the best. The first
sets from both nights are not very interesting. In fact, I would call
them "below average", at best.
- (03/04/2020)

I wish all below average first sets had an Eyes that good, not to mention everything else.
-FGE (09/23/2020)

This Other One is scattered to the far reaches with primal Dead madness; wrangled back to a ‘73 scurry and a strong Wharf Rat.
-Uncle Ben (01/27/2021)
