some guy is quoted in the book 'dead to the core' that jerry garcia freebased with salvador dali at the palais des sports during this run

If you believe Scully's book, also where ol' Jer got turned on to the Chinaman

A very distinctive version of Scarlet Begonias. Very fluid and trippy. I have read multiple reports that Jerry was flying high on China White during this run and I believe it. There is a numb rolling feeling to these shows. Lots of delicate soloing and laid-back mood. I enjoy the sound but I have seen a lot of people bash these shows on the Archive. I am not sure why, just take a listen. They are great! Enjoy!

People bash these shows because they're trying to see the dead in cool and uncool. These shows are meant for true heads, who don't look for anything in the music except raw emotion and fun. These shows are some of the best from the end of '74. Although, i can't deny, May of '74 is just the shit.
-Murphy (01/24/2013)

Steve perish, roadie de dead, has stated that this tour was very troubled, I believe due to drugs and other foibles. was just a chaotic tour. music still good I guess, I will have to listen with that in mind henceforth.

I will say this setlist is looking STRONG

This was the day Garcia got turned on to China white and began is slow decline.......

These Europe 74 shows get beat up and if you read the history it was a disastrous tour. I have listen to all of them and thought about them. This show is very very very good. It works on several levels but takes 2/3 listens.

Extra fast Greatest Story. Pretty cool.
-Luke (02/05/2022)

Sadly it was indeed the French connection that began the transformation of an intelligent and fun guy into a 20-year junkie. And it didn't take long to affect the music. Just compare the JG of the 70s with the JG after '79. It shows.
