Comments:

Crappy second set, song selection wise.

Totally sucks, I know. NFA > Stella Blue (!) > GDTRFB (perhaps hottest version ever) ... give me a break. Lame.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crash was a week before this show. 10/28/77 was the first show the Dead played since the crash.
The second set seems eerily appropriate...

that wasn't my comment lol

My very first show. Dragged a little in the middle, but everything after He's Gone was sublime. Have never heard a better version of Around & Around, and the NFAs from this era were as good as it gets.

So i see no one makes a comment when Keith uses a corny Synth, but when Brent does it it's blasphomy. Seriously, where the fuck did keith get that shit synth? Wish he woulda stuck with the good ol' grand piana.

Interesting note: Lynyrd Skynyrd were headed to Baton Rogue where the Dead just played.... the previous date and week before this show....
-Anonymous (08/27/2018)

This may have been the first show they played in 1977 where they did not perform either Estimated, Terrapin or Music Never Stopped

3/15 times they played Stella > GDTRFB

last time was 9/29/77 and next 6/14/80

Keith elevated the band, and together they pushed psychedelic music farther than it had ever gone before, while blazing a new trail and becoming one with American folklore. Post hiatus the skag snuck in and Keith farted away into snooze land in a mostly inoffensive manner. It was no longer fun and they left. It was the right thing to do. Brent came in full force with the 80s cheese vocally and musically like a fish out of water. I don’t hate Brent, but he didn’t necessarily inherit an easy task. His voice, tone choices, songwriting, and general insecurity about having nothing to do with the deeply rooted American tradition these guys had contributed to didn’t help.
