OMSN on a Sunday! Rare
-Anonymous (06/17/2018)

I’m listening to my 5th show and the second of my first run of shows I saw. I think it’s the 1st time I’ve heard it since. No stories, just a review of the music many years later.

Jackstraw opens strong. I mean really fucking strong. In recent years I’ve lost interest in the 2nd incarnation of FOTD. I think I’m listening to too much Siriux and not enough shows. This is a sweet version (although I could go on for weeks about Bob’s guitar tone, is that autowah?). The country set blew apart with the Mexicali (in a good way) and West LA was in it’s pre- In The Dark prime. Bob’s slide work in Little Red Rooster made Jerry’s solo all that much better. In the mid 80’s Tennessee was my favorite 1st set songs. Not so much anymore, but this was a great version. In contrast, I hated LLR, now I just enjoy the fuck out of it, in spite of the sappy lyrics. Deal’s coming next and I can’t imagine that it’s going to ruin the set. I’m not wrong. Really good Deal… “we’re gonna take a short break we’ll be right back, you’ll see”

The opening to Hell in a Bucket is crazy. At least one of them is playing in a different key, but it somehow works. It’s much darker than a usual Bucket. I think Brent is the culprit, but it’s really really good. Maybe best I’ve heard. Super twisty. And that’s INTO Scarlet! …which does not disappoint. Fire is a little underwhelming, Phil and Jerry try to revive it but it just stumbles into Drums. Bill and Mickey stick around for space with Bob and Jerry, who teases The Other One within about 4 ½ minutes. Phil and Brent come out as well. So if you’ve lost track, the whole band is on stage for Space. Brent channels some early Pink Floyd. TOO is scorching, maybe not the greatest one ever, but rock solid. The transition to Wharf Rat is nice. This is my favorite song these days. This one is a little hurried, but drifts nicely into Throwin’ Stones. Garcia loses focus a bit here, resulting in a spacey TS (again, pre- In the Dark is better) , but it doesn’t work so great with NFA. He finds it again about halfway through Touch and the band closes with a really strong OMSN.
