Comments:

This was my second show- the last New Years at HJK- and what an amazing show. I definitely experienced some psychic and paranormal activity at this show. The Jack Straw was enormously effective in getting my attention (...Shannon) "OK, guys I'm listening". It was a truly magickal night!

The 1st set closer- U.S.Blues- is one of the most energetic versions ever. Garcia stomps the stale Budweiser out of the lead on this. The energy was high, high, high, because, as you might recall, 1986 was the year Garcia slipped into his infamous coma, and we nearly lost him then.

Black Muddy River-3rd time played and 6th PUSH, all since 12/15 (Jerry's awakening)
-Perrinsowlf (08/06/2007)

First nye with the dead. Was the pefrect mid 80's dead show. Right up there with June 85 Greeks. Terrapin was a weaving of a tapestry. Will never forget it. And Bill Grahm flying in at 12 was the match that lit the candle.

Bill Graham had his guys set up a portion of the GD's PA system across from the front steps in the park and left the front doors open so those of us without tickets could enjoy the show. By the second and third sets you couldn't even tell you didn't have a ticket. I remember after the real show they played back NYE 1981 with that amazing Dark Star and it felt like the band was still up there playing. I met Bill the night before and he suggested I go talk to his son David who was chilling in Bill's car. Great run of shows.

Once again Bobby is 10 for 10 on the Desolation Row lyrics. That's the number of totally unique verses where the only similarity is "Desolation Row" as the last two words of each. He nails it on most versions I've heard yet can't seem to get Truckin or Promised Land right. I could have put this all in past tense since anything after 29 years ago today is irrelevant.
